The Members of APBMT

Dear colleagues:
How have you been?
Half a year has already passed since we met together at The 13th Congress in Taipei, which was so successfully organized by Professor Chen Po-Min and his colleagues in the last April 2008. Since then, many remarkable things have been occurred in the field of BMT not only in Asia-Pacific region but also all over the world.

First of all, I am happy to notify that The 14th Congress will be held as followings;

The 14th Congress of APBMT
Congress President of APBMT 2009: Professor Chun-Choo Kim
Chairman of the Organizing Committee: Professor Hack-Ki Kim
Date: August 27-29 (Thursday-Saturday), 2009
Venue: Grand Hilton Seoul Hotel, Seoul, Korea

I believe official circular will be soon sent from the congress office.

Next, I truly appreciate your enthusiastic cooperation to establish the organization of APBMT including the names of the core members, of contact persons (the members of scientific committee) and their e-mail address in 15 countries/regions of Asia-Pacific area. We, APBMT Secretarial Office, are now trying to strengthen the infrastructure of the organization, such as the membership and the finances.

The APBMT Annual Report 2007 and 2008 were published and sent to APBMT members and other related organization (CIBMTR, EBMT etc). We are now preparing to collect the data by using the electronic program called "TRUMP" (Transplant Registry Unified Management Program). This system is relatively simple and shares core items with CIBMTR and EBMT. You can use the TRUMP for your own purposes as well as for APBMT Registry. As basic regulation to use these data has been already set, I encourage you to apply the usage of these data in the near future.

World Blood and Marrow Transplantation Group (WBMT) is being established in cooperation with APBMT, EBMT and CIBMTR. As announced each time, the first meeting was held in Lyon in March 2007, the second in Minneapolis in November 2007, the third in Atlanta in December 2007 and the forth in Firenze in April 2008. We have planned to create a unified number of patients and donors worldwide for registering, recording and managing the BMT on a global scale. Teleconference was also organized in August 2008, and after that, WHO asked us (APBMT, CIBMTR, EBMT and BMDW) to gather together in Geneva for presenting the activity of WBMT and for discussing about possible cooperation and support. I attended the meeting on behalf of APBMT and I happily announced that the meeting was basically successful. I believe that WBMT will greatly contribute to improve the outcomes of BMT and to promote BMT. I am also convinced that WBMT would contribute to keep the safety of patients and donors. It is planned that the first WBMT meeting in Asia will be organized in Nagoya, Japan in the end of April 2009. The minutes of WBMT meetings in the past and the information of the coming meeting in Nagoya will be appeared in our APBMT homepage soon.

I hope all are well with you and hope to see you soon in the near future.

Yoshihisa Kodera
Chairman, Executive Committee of APBMT
