To the members of APBMT

Dear colleagues:
At this moment of the renewal of our home page, I announce several things of our group.

First of all, we congratulate and appreciate the marvelous success of the 14th APBMT Annual Congress in Seoul in this August, which was organized by Professors Chun-Choo Kim, Hack-Ki Kim and Dong Jip Kim. Through whole the period of the congress, we realized APBMT had become a true international association. It is also our pleasure that APBMT Business Meeting has almost fixed our bylaws. We, APBMT Secretariat, are working to translate the bylaws in Japanese to get the accreditation of Corporate Juridical Person under the laws of Japan, which might make fund collection possible.

Before this congress, we organized the APBMT-WBMT Joint Meeting named “International Consensus Meeting for WBMT in Nagoya (The 6th WBMT Meeting)” in Nagoya, Japan in this April and we are happy to report that it was basically successful. There, the representatives of four founding societies of WBMT (Professors Niederwieser and Gratwohl (EBMT), Horowitz (CIBMTR), Oudshoorn (WMDA), Confer (NMDP), Aljuruf (EMBMT)) met the representatives of APBMT member countries/regions (10 out of 16 countries/regions participated) and we could have good discussions for the future prospects of WBMT.

I am pleased to announce that APBMT Scientific Committee approved that Professors Jong Wook Lee (Korea) and Shinichiro Okamoto (Japan) to be the alternate representatives of APBMT for WBMT, and Professors Mickey Koh (Singapore), Chun-Rong Tong (China) and Yoichi Takaue (Japan) to be the representatives of APBMT for The International Society for Cell Therapy. I also notify you that Professor He Huang (China) and Dr. Tasneem Farzana (Pakistan) attended “NCI-sponsored International Workshop on the Biology, Prevention and Treatment of Relapse after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation” in the US in this early November as the representatives of APBMT.

APBMT Secretariat/Data Center has just accomplished APBMT Annual Report 2009 which includes the 3rd APBMT Activity Survey (the HSCT activity survey up to 2007), the bylaws, the current member list and the other information. You will soon receive the booklet and you can see some of these contents through this home page. We are now starting APBMT Outcome Registration by using TRUMP system and we hope we could get productive “Asian data” from this project.

As one of founding member societies of WBMT, we are now arranging Global Transplant Center Number (GTCN), which would be a unique number of your center in global level and would be a tool to make the registered data more accurate. If you have any questions or difficulties on this issue, don’t hesitate to notify us.

We are happy to inform you that the 15th Annual Congress of APBMT will be organized by Professor Saengsuree Jootar in Phuket, Thailand on October 29-31, 2010. You can get more information through the congress home page; www.apbmt2010.org, which is expected to work soon. We hope we could meet together again in the next congress.
