Greeting from President
The 16th Congress of APBMT (APBMT 2011 Sydney) and Vietnam Workshop of the WBMT in Hanoi
Dear colleagues:
As you know, we, APBMT members, are organizing two international meetings in the coming autumn, one is the 16th Annual Meeting of APBMT in Sydney and the other is the Workshop of the WBMT in Hanoi.
At first, we express our sincere thanks for the efforts of Drs. David Ma, Philip Rowlings, Michael Harvey, Peta Dennington, Chris Ward, Szu Hee Lee, John Rasko, Vicki Antonenas and Moria Stephens to organize the big joint congress of APBMT, HSANZ, ANZSBT, ASTH, ISHAPD, ISCTA, BMTSAA and Nurses-Programme in Sydney, Australia from October 30-November 2, 2011. The BMT team of Australia/New Zealand is one of the founding members of APBMT and their experiences at clinical field as well as patient registration have contributed for the development of our society. Because of that, we expect the coming congress could be one with high quality at both scientific and social programs. Through the program, we realize that the organizing committee generously keep opportunities for us to have the business meeting, many meetings for our working group as well as the scientific presentations by APBMT members although the schedule of whole the joint congress is very tight. We expect the participants can learn a lot from the experiences of BMT in Australia/New Zealand and can exchange information each other among scientists from Asia-Pacific countries/regions as well as from other societies such as ASBMT/CIBMTR or EBMT.
The Vietnam Workshop of WBMT will be then held in Hanoi from November 10-12 under the collaboration of APBMT, WBMT and WHO. The plan of this international workshop was proposed by WHO to WBMT to promote stem cell transplantation in developing countries in the world. WHO knew the situation of Asia through our survey data which we reported in the last APBMT congress in Phuket, showing that there were 18 countries/regions where no HSCT activity was captured. WHO proposed to have a workshop to promote HSCT in these countries/regions and to make it a successful model for developing countries in the other regions. WBMT has accepted this proposal and APBMT is playing a major role to organize this workshop as this is held in Asia. Three days meeting is consisted of two days workshop and one day scientific committee and the details including the registration form appeared in the home page of WBMT (http://www.wbmt.org), which is also linked to our APBMT home page (http://www.apbmt.org). The host institute is NIHBT in Hanoi, where Drs. Nguyen Anh Tri, Bach Quoc Khanh, Nguyen Trieu Van and the other members are eager to make this workshop/scientific symposium a fruitful one. As developing countries, Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh and Mongolia are planned to be invited and we, major APBMT member countries/regions, are expected to play a bridging role between these countries and the participating advanced countries. One of the meeting goals is to optimize existing transplant programs. It means the advanced countries would also get some useful information through the workshop/symposium therefore this would be a nice opportunity to refresh HSCT in global level. Although the time schedule between the two meetings is quite tight, we encourage you to join this epoch-making meeting in Hanoi. The secretarial office of this meeting is served by our APBMT office, so don't hesitate to ask us if you have any questions.
We hope all are well with you and we are looking forward to seeing you soon at the meetings.
